Essay on Management Information Systems
Essay on Management Information Systems Essay on Management Information Systems Essay on Management Information SystemsSchool Service Supply Inc. (SSS) is the statewide provider of school supplies. The company provides a wide range of materials and supplies to K-12 schools. SSS has a diverse network of suppliers and offers more than 88,000 SKUs to the schools. The company is the result of the unification of many regional suppliers. It should be noted that SSS does not supply textbooks and computers to the schools. SSS also has a wide sales and distribution network: there are 250 outside agents who cover all states and major areas; there are also 8 large distribution centers. The primary marketing tool of SSS is its large printed catalog.There are different types of competitors for SSS. Although there are no direct competitors, large retailers such as Office Depot (and other furniture retailers), national manufacturer of low-end school furniture Virco and local suppliers target the same clients are SSS. Currently the market share belonging to SSS is only 15%. One of the deficiencies of SSS is its outdated information system: the company uses different software and information systems for different processes (i.e. there are separate systems for ordering, forecasting demand, managing inventory, etc.). As a result, 30% of orders have errors arrive incomplete, are inaccurate or late.Strengths and weaknesses of SSSSSS has several key strengths. First of all, the company is represented in all states and has many effective sales representatives. Secondly, SSS has an efficient supply chain which includes more than 8,000 suppliers. The number of SKUs offered by SSS is also impressive and exceeds 88,000 units. Furthermore, SSS occupies a unique market niche which is not addressed directly by the competitors. SSS emerged due to various mergers and acquisitions of regional suppliers; therefore, the company is composed of experienced businessmen with a good market understanding of at least their region or state. The company can further increase sales a nd leverage its strengths by contacting more schools, offering a convenient way of reviewing the items offered, providing discounts and bulk orders to their clients.SSS also has a number of weaknesses. Its first weakness is the inefficiency of internal processes. In particular, 30% of incorrect or late orders is an indicator of poorly organized processes; such errors are likely to discourage customers. Secondly, SSS has inefficient marketing approach: it is expensive and inconvenient to market the items using catalogs nowadays. It seems that SSS is not represented in the web and hence more advanced school purchase agents simply have no information about SSS. The inefficiency of information systems in SSS is also a significant weakness: the companys systems are outdated and are not communicating with each other.Threats and opportunities of SSSThere are plenty of market opportunities for SSS. The company focuses on a particular market segment schools, and currently reached only 15% o f this market. SSS can establish contacts with the new customers and expand its business. Furthermore, SSS can include computers and textbooks as part of its offers. It might be efficient to offer turnkey solutions for classes and schools. It might be also efficient for SSS to get in touch with the providers of school software and to include software as part of their offers. SSS can collaborate with home schoolers and specialized schools. In addition to this, SSS can expand its market segment to include colleges and universities. One more opportunity is the use of online sales and creating a special website with interactive catalog of items offered by SSS.The threat originating from internal sources is the decline of SSSs reputation due to failed orders and the consequent decline of their market position. The biggest external threat emerges from competition, especially from large competitors such as Office Depot. Such competitors have more efficient operations and more sophisticated customer management systems, so they can easily enter the market segment where SSS is operating. Other threats include difficulty of competing with local mom and pop school suppliers because of the personal links existing between the schools and these suppliers and seasonality of sales.Benefits of information systemsThe use of a modern integrated management information system will significantly assist SSS in improving its market position. The use of integrated information systems in an organization has a number of advantages. Immediate benefits emerge from operational benefits SSS will be able to enhance performance, to increase turnover and improve efficiency of managing inventory, will be able to manage customer relationships in a better way, etc (Stair Reynolds, 2013). One more direct advantage of using one powerful information system will be the integration and alignment of all processes (Stair Reynolds, 2013). Using such system, SSS will be able to synchronize the actions o f its suppliers and sales representatives.It is recommended to align the information system with organizational website and ecommerce opportunities. Customers will be able to place orders online or by phone, to review items offered by SSS, to post own reviews and share experiences. Sales representatives will be able to check the availability of items, offer bulk prices and form orders on the go. Furthermore, suppliers will be able to receive and ship orders instantly. In addition to this, the use of information system will help SSS to manage its logistics and transportation more efficiently: the company will be able to merge orders and deliveries when the inventory management systems of its distribution centers are integrated.Creating a competitive advantage using information systemsIn addition to operational benefits offered by the use of information systems, there also emerge tactical and strategic benefits (Sousa Oz, 2014). Tactical benefits include increased visibility of busin ess operations, improved forecasting, the opportunity to make preliminary orders and to negotiate different options of the order with the clients (Sousa Oz, 2014). The availability of operational and tactical information creates a background for developing business intelligence. SSS will be able to set more precise strategic goals and assess its current and future market position with the help of information systems. Employees and senior management will be able to trace real-time information and therefore improve decision-making, formation of prices and interactions with the customers.Using information systems, SSS can develop the following competitive advantages: optimize its costs and overheads, optimize the supply chain, make prices more competitive, enhance planning and forecasting, etc. Furthermore, the presence of information system will help SSS add new items to its catalog such as school textbooks, computers and even school software. Therefore, the implementation of a unifi ed management information system will help SSS improve its operations, strengthen its market position and create competitive advantages.

Financial Exclusion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Financial Exclusion - Essay Example Now while no bank advertises that it will not extend it's banking facilities to mothers on welfare , there are various barriers which would present that. The income level of that person may be so low that banking guidelines would not permit giving them credit facilities . They may not have any established credit because they pay everything in cash, or they may even have bad credit , because they just may not have given too much thought to payment on time and they just pay when they have the money. Or simply they may not just know , how the financial and credit system works. So a certain group of people are excluded from the financial system , so how is this bad and most importantly , how does this effect you and me After all we are not a socialist or a communist country where everybody should have access to everything and we besides we already know that system has failed. This is not about trying to establish a socialist welfare society. There are real damaging consequences to a modern free market economy from lack of financial inclusion of a certain group of people. First of all a whole group of people have been excluded from the mainstream economy , that cannot be good for the economy. The people themselves will enter a vicious cycle of paying high interest rates for credit and since these people are already in varying degrees of poverty it just pushes them further into it. Finally poverty breeds instability , violence and crime. The inner cities, slums and ghettos all of this in common that they consist of financially excluded people and are breedin g ground of poverty and crime. But should Financial Institutions take the burden of providing credit facilities to people who do not meet their credit guidelines Don't they have a responsibility to make sound investment decisions on behalf of their shareholders Certainly they do. In fact the current sub prime crisis may not have happened if a few banks had behaved in a prudent manner in lending. You cannot and should not lend to the unlendable. But understand this , these people already borrow money , they pay a very heavy interest for it. So the banks must design products to capture this market rather than asking this group of people to meet their existing guidelines which may be difficult , if not impossible. If Bangladesh can have a successful micro loan program with Grameen bank , why could U.K. which has a much smaller problem with financial exclusion not come up with solutions. Indeed An interesting feature which emerges from the international practice is that the more developed a society is, the greater is the thrust on empowerment of the common person and low-income groups. In U.K The first review of the problems of financial exclusion in 1999 stimulated both debate and development. The government set out its strategy, Promoting financial inclusion, in 2004, identifying three priority areas - access to banking, access to affordable credit, and access to free face-to-face money advice for people who are financially excluded. UB or Universal banking was setup partly because of this effort , this opened up access to bank accounts at post offices. And this was a very good idea , because bank may look

OLM Individual ASSIGNMENT Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
OLM Individual - Assignment Example These include process design and structure, human resource management, product design, location, capacity planning, supply-chain strategy, and partnering with outside agencies. Based on these factors, proven practices and principles have been linked with activities in operations management of the fast food concept that can help in achieving sustainability in the competitive market and the firmââ¬â¢s corporate strategy. According to Hill (1991), ââ¬ËThe production/operations management (POM) task is concerned with the transformation process which takes inputs and converts them into outputs, together with the various support functions closely associated with this basic taskââ¬â¢ (cited Brown, 2000; p.7). Such transformation processes can be applied to three main categories, materials, customers and information. Brown (2000) describes that Operations Management encompasses the most vital activities of production, beginning from and including, planning and design, production processes of goods and services, and also effective integration of marketing, finance, human resources management and strategy in order to enable a business to enter and compete with both new and existing markets. In other words, a businessââ¬â¢s success and sustainability largely depend on the operational capabilities, including efficiency and quality. Based on a case adopted from Brown (2000; p.1), an attempt to establish a relationship between strategy and operations management through different ways in which an organizationââ¬â¢s operations can add value to the delivery of goods and services has been coherently illustrated. The case is about ââ¬ËSunnyside Up,ââ¬â¢ a fast food concept in UK, a responsibility given to Chris Cowls, a former Franchise Director of Burger King. Chris Cowls and this team is responsible for designing and setting up the Sunnyside Up in UK market which already has well-established McDonalds

Education :: essays research papers
From the ancient years many people tried to infect their knowledge to others. It was not difficult even for an inferior civilization to understand that the education was absolutely necessary, so the capitulary of education is ancient. Education is one of the most important tools that a society possesses. The right implementation of this tool is one of the greatest ways of assuring the quality of life within a society. The ability to better ourselves, is one of the strongest abilities of the human race. Without the consistent development of the human race, life would be nothing more than survival. At its most basic level of definition, education is nothing more than the teaching of ideas. The early stages of schooling instil more attitude and social skills than knowledge. The younger stages of a person's life are usually the most definable years of their lives. For this reason many rudimentary skills are taught. As the age and skill level of the student increases, more education is based upon the interest of the student. For society to progress and excel every generation must learn just a little more. Education has its downfalls. Students are only taught what society sees fit to teach them. If a society doesn't want students to learn about a certain period of history, then it is not taught. Education is a tool to succeed in life. The quality of education that a student receives depends upon many issues. One of the biggest differences in education is between public and private schools. In a society that values money, such as ours, the rich are given a better background in education than most people. For the general public, students are taught the same material, and excel at different rates than other students. The people that don't grasp the material usually fall behind and become the working class within our society. Those that excel become the backbone of our society, fuelling our economy and developing ideas within our world. The difference in education is not only is not only the skill that is provided, but also the attitude. Every person is different, and some people lack the ability to work in a technical field. Everyone has a place in society, and some people will work hard physically all of their lives.

Campaign Rhetoric
Composition Project 1: Campaign Rhetoric With one of its major focuses on both textual and visual rhetoric, English 102 invites you into an in-depth analysis of how text and image work together. In politics, product advertising, education, business, and many other contexts, we see words, pictures, and even sound coming together in campaigns to send messages to their audiences. Your increasingly sharp ability to analyze the rhetorical situations of such campaigns not only contributes to the strength of your communication, but it also helps to strengthen your ability to ââ¬Å"readâ⬠and critique the world around you.This first project invites you to analyze, evaluate, and create an evidence-based argument about a campaign that interests you. Steps in the Process Like any authentic research project, youââ¬â¢ll begin with inquiry: What do I know? What donââ¬â¢t I know? Youââ¬â¢ll use research to get to know some campaign(s) in the media around you: Web, TV, print, radio, m obile phone. Once youââ¬â¢ve done that research, youââ¬â¢ll 1. Choose a campaign: an anti-drug campaign for teens? A local Senatorââ¬â¢s campaign for re-election? Starbucksââ¬â¢s line of seasonal coffee drinks?A universityââ¬â¢s recruiting campaign? 2. Identify the rhetorical situation: the communicator, audience, message and purpose, context 3. Analyze its rhetorical strategies 4. Use this analysis to make an evaluative argument about this campaign Your Audience Your instructor and your peers are part of your audience. But the message you send with this analysis is likely to be of interest to audiences in and out of your field. Thus, it is up to you to decide who you want your audience to be, based on your purpose, message, and context.Form Depending on your audience, purpose, message, and context, this composition may take any one or a hybrid of textual forms: e. g. , an opinion piece, a letter, a memo, a report, a blog. Research and Evidence: Your composition will draw on at least one form of primary research (see Praxis 200-205). ), and at least one form of scholarly research. Additionally, you may feel welcome to draw on other sources (journals, newspapers or magazines, Web sites, images, popular culture) as your audience, purpose, and message require.

Themes in Sir Gareth - 1078 Words
Sir Thomas Malory wrote Le Morte dââ¬â¢Arthur in the middle of the fifteenth century and it has now become a paradigmatic representation of Middle English Literature. In this essay I am going to look closely at a section of The Tale of Sir Gareth of Orkney; paying close attention to style, theme and lexis used as well as looking at how this passage fits into the society of the fifteenth century. The extract I am going to examine is situated close to the start of the narrative; hence it provides key introductions to characters. Unquestionably one of the main themes of this narrative is chivalry. Chivalry was a concept well known in the fifteenth century and it was seen as the absolute ideal way to conduct oneselfâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These are insulting terms in a chivalric society; the reader sees Kay must be overcome in order for the hero to succeed. In the lexicon used by Kay are the words ââ¬Ëâ⬠browesâ⬠ââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëâ⬠hogâ⬠ââ¬â¢. ââ¬ËBrowesââ¬â¢ can be used to describe a hill and the word ââ¬Ëhogeââ¬â¢ means hill also, this represents Kay as something which must be conquered. Kay says that Gareth should have asked for ââ¬Ëhorse and armourââ¬â¢ showing that he is the opposite of chivalric - the antithesis of a role-model. Gareth feels he must prove himself to earn his horse and armour, it is not honourable to be gifted these things. Kay is also disrespectful, he ââ¬Ëscorned and mockedââ¬â¢ Gareth, these words have connotations of being cheated or deceived again highlighting Kay as an untrustworthy character. Kay shows contempt for Gareth and no mutual respect, a cornerstone or chivalric value, by likening him to a ââ¬Ëâ⬠porke hogâ⬠ââ¬â¢, an ugly, bestial metaphor. The fifteenth century was a period where knighthood was in decline and the middle classes were becoming prevalent within society. I believe it is possible Sir Gareth of Orkney was written in order to provide a template of chivalry for the middle classes. It was a fear amongst the aristocracy that the middle classes would rise up and usher in a new society. It is possible that Maloryââ¬â¢s depiction of chivalry here is attempting to show theShow MoreRelatedAn Area Of Darkness Character Analysis1000 Words à |à 4 Pagesown position as a third generation Caribbean settled in England, reflects constantly in his works.
